GM Coaching of Canada Grant
According to research highlights by the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC), good coaching nurtures optimal growth and development of children and fosters the joy of sports. To develop our coaches in Canada, General Motors of Canada and the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) provided 60 $2,000 grants for coach skill development. Included in the list of recipients is Vancouver Phoenix Gymnastics.
Making Dreams Possible is a program developed by GM in cooperation with the Coaching Association of Canada, the governing body of Canada's coaching education program and is designed to support coaches of Olympic and Paralympic Sports at the high performance and community levels. Over the next three years, GM's Making Dreams Possible program will provide a minimum of 100 grants of $2,000 each annually for coach development in local communities, and ten grants of $10,000 each annually to high performance athletes and their coaches. These grants will be used to fund special projects that develop the skills and abilities of elite and community level coaches. |

What
Makes Phoenix Unique
Phoenix is the only dedicated
gymnastics facility in Vancouver. This provides participants
in gymnastics with unique benefits that cannot be fully
provided by the programs currently offered by the community
centres. These benefits include:
The quality of the participant
experience.
A dedicated facility has
more equipment and diversity of equipment compared to
Community Center programs. This includes specialized
equipment for kindergym and our special needs program.
The availability of space and abundant apparatus stations
contribute to continuous activity with no line ups.
This adds up to more activity and hence greater physical
fitness for the participants. Built in features of a
dedicated gym expand this experience. For example, built
in foam filled pits, mini-tramps and trampolines, a
40 x 40 sq ft spring cushioned floor area for warm-up,
games and floor routines. The full international level
men’s and women’s apparatus are essential
for those involved in Competitive programs. Finally,
dedicated studio space for gymnastics related activities
such as cheerleading, tumbling and sport aerobics, complete
the experience.
Special opportunities.
Participants from a well
recognized club have the opportunity to participate
in numerous recreational displays such as the CFL half
time show, BC Gymnaestrada, & National Display events.
The girls and boys artistic competitive opportunities
enable them to compete at regional, provincial and national
venues.
Quality of leadership
and instruction.
Our Recreational and Competitive
program leaders are dedicated professionals and veterans
with years of gymnastic coaching and club management
experience. Phoenix has a clear mandate to provide the
very best in coaching, leadership and program. All our
coaches are NCCP trained and this quality is a mandated
part of our program standards including all recreational
programs. This standard of coaching sets Phoenix apart
from all other vehicles of gymnastics instruction. Without
this standard, the gymnastics instruction is merely
an extension of the general discipline of physical recreation
and does not truly teach the sport of gymnastics nor
does it offer all of its benefits.
One of the most important aspects of Phoenix
is the consistency of program development. This
permits participants to achieve their full potential.
This is often demonstrated by girls who join our club
as tots and remain with the sport through in to their
teenage years. This level of participation and loyalty
can not possibly be offered in any other venue than
through a stable well organized club such as Phoenix.
We believe that girls and boys who develop through our
program see their instructors and peers as role models.
It is essential, therefore, that quality, honesty and
commitment are shown at all levels of participation. |
